Microsoft word does not open and never gets pass the microsoft word box?

microsoft word doesnt open up past the box with the id and name box. i tried everything to have it start up like by going to the c drive and changing the file name in the template so i tried deleting it but the problem is that the computer wont let me delete it. it says another form of the application is running and says i cant delete even though nothing else is runnning after i log on. so i want to know if theres a way to get it starting again or if theres a way i can delete it so i can reinstall it.

Delete the NORMAL.DOT file and try to start Word again.

Are you running Outlook (or Outlook Express)? (Close it.)

What's the operating system, Vista or XP?
Right-click on the taskbar and select Task Manager. This will show which tasks and processes are active on your computer. If you see anything that looks like "winword.exe" or similar, click the End Task (or End Process) button. Then try deleting Word again. If it works, then just use the MS Office CD or DVD to reinstall Word. If not, that would be very weird...
